THE DROUGHT IN OTAGO.
AN APPEAL TO THE GOVERNMENT. Per Press Association. Wellington, July 20. An Otago deputation waited on the Premier to ask for help for settlers suffering from drought in the North end Central Otago. It was stated that bo little rain had fallen for two years that stock could not get feed except at an exorbitant cost. Mention was made of the precedent set during the severe winter Borne 12 years ago, and it was suggested that freights might be reduced on the railways and sheep carried one way free. The Premier promised immediate attention. If there was going to be serious loss to the colony Something would have to be done.
