"CAPE TO CAIRO."
Those who attended the missionary lecture given at St. Mary's Hall last night by Kcv. F. 11. Spencer, representative of the British and Foreign Bible Society, had a very pleasant evening. There were some splendid lantern slides shown, and with the very effective description given by the lecturer the audience gathered a very fair idea of some of the grandeur of the river scenery in that "dark" continent, whilst they also grasped a slight measure of the difficulties which have to be overcome by those men and women who take upon themselves the work of preaching Christiiinil.v to the heathen in their own tongue. The rev. lecturer referred to the exploring work of the great Livingstone, and tiie martyrdom of the missionary '■ailing. Karly mission enterprise in Africa, illustraied by slides showing the conditions under which the Zulus and other races live. The concluding slides showed the great prosperity in the Nile Valley and at Cairo, and the astonishing results of irrigation.
