MEETING AT NMY PLVMOITJI. Mr. W. Fry or. tiu* secretary of tin.' New Zealand # Employers' Federation, addressed a meeting of employers of labour in the Council Chamber* last evening, .Mr. M. Goudaere was voted to the chair. and brielly introduced the speaker. Mr. Pryor, in opening his address, explained that the federation knew no polities nor took part in party strife, but solely watched the trend of labor legislation as it came before the House. It was not opposed to labor legislation., but considered some was ill-considered and abused. The Arbitration and Conciliation Acts were discussed, and the speaker showed how ill many instances they did not benefit the workers in the way they had hoped. Proof was given of this -by the way labor unions had treated incompetent workers, seeking to prevent them getting work by objecting io permits for them. Many important points were touched upon, and the address was full of practical and useful advice to employers. At the close a resolution was carried recommending that the various trade associations in the town should, through their executive, with others meet and try and resusitate the now defunct Employers' Association.
A cordial vote of thanks to .Mr. I'ryor for hi:; address was carried with acclamation. A like compliment to the chairman concluded the meeting.
