N.Z. CRICKET COUNCIL.
Per Press Association. Christchureh. May 15. At a meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council to-night, a motion to award the Plunkct Shield for the best record of the season among the provincial associations, (o Auckland, was lost by ten votes to six, and a motion that Canterbury should receive the shield was carried by eleven to six. The report of the sub-committee appointed to control the tour of the Marylebone Cricket team, stated that the first match played against Wellington could alone be considered to have been a financial success. The total guarantee received from the council and affiliated associations amounted to £2850, the net proceeds of matches was £1578 0s Od, and from other sources £!)!) 7«, making total receipts £4510 Ids Id. whilst' total expenditure for the tour amounted f 0 £IBBO 10s. which the subcommittee the (our left a balance in hand of £1889!) 10s, which (he subcommittee recommended should be refunded to the guarantors in proportion of their respective guarantees. 'The committee was of opinion that, although the visit of the team was not a financial success, it, would be proved to have had a beneficial effect upon the cricket of the colony. The report was adopted, and an honorarium of £IOO voted to the hon.secretary of the Council, Mr. F. (.'. Raphael, for his services in connection with the tour.
