IRELAND TO CANADA.
PKOPOSSLD SKW MAIL STEAJIEII itOUTE. LONDON, Jan. 12. An important scheme for the development of the "ail Br.tish mail route" to the Ear Last is likely to be produced for consideration in the coming Parliamentary session. The object of those who are interesting themselves in the matter —among whom is Dr. Ambrose, M.P.., for »\ est Mayo —is to accelerate the carnage of the mails by establishing a packet station at that po-nt in the liritish Isles which is nearest to Canada. This important position is occupied by Blacksod 13ay, on the west coast of Mayo, between The Mullet and Achill Island. At Blacksod Bay there is a deep, spacious harbor, which is believed to be suitable for use of a packet station. It is proposed that railway ferrysteamers snould be provided between Stranraer and Lame in order that the mails and passengers may be carried across in the railway carr.ages. This arrangement would make it po*ib.e for passengers to travel from Londou to the west coast of Ireland without leaving the train. It is stated that if 25 knot steamers are used, Halifax cau be reached over tliis route in four days. The amount of capital requ.red for the project is estimated at £1,250,000.
