It was reported the other day Hint Mr Carnegie had made a gift, of £,i,000,000 as a fund for the establishment of pensions for superannuated professors, the condition being th.it denominational institutions should be rigidly excluded from the benefits of the scheme. Chicago University being such an institute, since its charter requires the president and two-thirds of the professors to be Baptists, is one of the excluded bodies. its great patron, Mr J. D. Rockefeller, who makes what may be called the retort capitalistic. According to the Herald he will subscribe £OOO.OOO towards all endowments for pensioning superannuated professor.; of Chi'.'ngo University. This endowment wili provide pensions of a iarger amount tlian those which would be obtained from the Carnegie Univer-ity were able to ilia re in it.
