WOMEN'S MEDICAL WORK.
NEW YORK, Jan. 0. At the meeting of the New York "omen's Medical Association, held in memory of the late Dr. Mary Jacobi, Ur. William Osier spoke on the work of women physiean. The scientific character of Dr Jacobi's contributions to medical literature had, iie said, conferred distinction on the work of American lady doctors, and had caused many institutions to open their doors to practitioners of tlje female :cx. "I have long been waiting the advent, Dr Osier remarked, "of a woman physician of an intellect so commanding that she will rank with Harvey, Pu>teur. and Vircliow. I have not the slightest doubt that such an one will arise." Dr. Osier added that while a larger proportion of women than of men was unfit for the practice of medicine, there was a relatively larger percentage of women adapted to scientific work. It was encouraging to see so many women pursuing labatory researches here, they might meet ineu as equals, s.ncc what they lacked in initiatve and independence was counter balanced by a more delicate technique, a greater pat ience with minutae, aud a greater m it tery of detail. The association has decided to ra's a sum of £SOOO towards a Jacobi memorial fund, the income to be used to defray the expenses of some prospective woman physician for study and travel abroad. ■_ . "
