A remarkable tragedy, recalling some of the romances of the South of a hundred years ago, has just occurred in Atlanta, the capital of Georgia. Mr Harvey Hill, a prominent lawyer of tlie city, and grandson of ex-Sena-tor Benjamin Hill, shot Mr Frank ilialey juur., the sou of a wealtliy doctor, at tlie wedding of the laUer's cousin Ulie.

The crime was a sequel to a romantic story. Hill lias lor a long t.me been deeply attached to JJidley's sister Mary. Her parents opposed tlie suit for some reason known only to themselves, and Hill was forbidden t< enter their home or speak to their daughter. The latter was one of Elbe's bridesmaids. Hill and young Ridley «e ■. also among the guests. Kefore the ceremony Hill contrived to see Miss Ridley, aud had a long confidential conversation witih her. The girl's brother surprised the couple, and askod Hill to speak to him for a moment on the lawii. There a violent quarrel ensued between the two men. Ridley angrily reminded Hill of his father's Wishes, aud asked him by what right he paid addresses to his sister.

Hlli made an angry retort, and Kidley thereupon knocked him down. The latter jumped to his feet and drew a revolver - , and fired two shots at Ridley. Both took effect, and little hope is felt that he will recover.

Hill threw away his revolver, reentered the house, and told the guests what he had done. Then he walked calmly away, and gave himself up to the sheriff.

Young Ridley was a great social favourite, and his friends threaten to lynch HUL
