GENEVA, Jan. 1. Emile Roost, an impulsive young man of twenty-three, fell violently in love, because a housebreaker, and committed murder, all in twenty-four hours.
Last Saturday Roost, who has. ithe reputation of being an industrious young man, met in the street of his native village of Beringen, in Schaffhouse, Frauleiu Rosa Bollinger, the pretty seventeen-year-old daughter of Herr Bollinger, who lives in the same terrace. bhe was home from schou: for the Christmas hol.day, and h... been buying Bonie New Vear toys wlieu Roost saw her. He fell in love, followered her home, introduced himself, and proposeJ on the doorstep. The girl laughed, thinking it a joke, and banged the door m his face. That afternoon Roost interviewed her father, and asked for the girl's hand. \\ hen he was met with a sharp refusal he promptly thrashed Ilerr Bollinger. Tue same night he broke into the Uollingers' house with an axe, entered the room where the g.ri was sleeping, and again asked her to marry him. The indignant and frightened g.rl refused, and was cut to pieces oy tue murderer, who, aiter committing the crime, walked to Scliaft'house and gave Himself up to the police.
