TARANAKI REGATTA.

As will bo seen by reference to qnr advertising columns the above favourite aquatic event takes place on Thursday week, February 21st, when it is anticipated there will be, as usual, a large attendance. The Committee were unfortunate in haying a wet day when the fixture was originally fixed, but as they are anxious to give the public a full day's enjoyment it has been decided to add two Maori canoe races to the programme in substitution of the two rigger events rowed oil! on the original date. The natives are quite keen for the contest, and are now getting the canoes ready for the event. It is anticipated that at least three will enter, with the probability of two others competing. In addition to these races the Clifton and Waitara champion crews have a contest in their riggers, anct a good race is looked for, both being (it and well and desirous of supremacy. Taken altogether the regatta of f 007 should be even more interesting than its predecessors, as a number of whaicboat events have received better entries than heretofore, The ladies' rice should prove more than usually interesting.
