ANGLICAN SYNOD.

-XKFD FOR REVIVAL MISSIONS. Ver Press Association. Dunedin, -lamiary i!S. At the Anglican Synod, the Rishop of Wellington moved that the Synod is of opinion that general missions'conducted by missionaries from Fhigland

on the lines of tins mission help to (South Africa in 11)04, would Jiu oil the utmost benefit to the New Zealand Church, ami respectfully requests the .Bishops to make applications, if practicable, for such a. misdon to the proper authorities in England. Dr. Wallis said the idea had been first approved by the Wellington Synod, and most of the other Synods had also endorsed tiie proposal. There was great need for more life in the work of the Church. All weu; inclined to lose heart about doing anything, and were getting slack, as they wanted more faith. If was hoped the mission would quicken the life of Church pco- ■ pie, and. also help to reach those people who stood apart from the Chinch altogether. The mission to s'oulh Africa had done great work, and it was hoped similar work would be done in -New Zealand, lie did not mean that Church life in New Zealand was! in a Hopeless state. A most hopeful sign \va, that they were impatient with the present state of things, and foil they ought to do better. If they accepted this mission, it meant a huge expenditure, but most of all couiimml prayer that Cod will make the mission fruitful iu the salvation of souls, lie would sooner see the resolution thrown out, if they were not going to work and pray for the mission. Several speakers referred to the great responsibility in connection witu the proposal. The Jlishop of Christ church expressed sympathy with the motion. They had quite enough organisation, but lacked spiritual power, and they would never have that power unless they sought it in some such waxas this. The Rev. J. j|. !}„„,,,.„ pointed out the need for a preparatory mission to the clergy. After further discussion, the motion was carried unanimously.

! The Jiishop of Auckland has received a promise of £IOO from a Dunedin lavmau towards the fnr.tl fjr erecting new buildings for St. John's OoIlc"e, Auckland. The isynod this evening adopted, on the motion of the Bishop of Christchurch, n resolution authorising (he Maori Mission Board to increase if possible the grants to dioceses wherein Maori clergy are at work, in order that the stipends of .COO per annum now paid to Maori clergy may be raised to a .suitable amount", also authorising the .Hoard to cx|i"ud a sum not exceeding tf-100 per annum on the organisation of its work.
