ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
l'er lYuss Association. Wmlixotox, January 28. A serious accident befell Alfred Hopkins, an elderly single man, in the Harbour Board's shed this morning. A bale of wool struck him on the back ot the neck ami fractured his spine. Thomas Krskiue, a widower, died siiddonly in a cab on Saturday night, while being driyen home from the Imperial Hotel with a friend. Latek _ An mquost was held to-day concerning the death of Thomas Erskine, aged 61, who died in a cab on Saturday I evening, while being driven from an hotel where lie had been drinking. Thoixlcceased, according to his nearest friend, had never been ill in his life, nor had he ever complained. The surgeon, who made an autopsy, found all the internal organs in an advanced stage of disoase, the condition of the liver pointing to deceased having been a heayy drinker. Death had resulted from regurgitation on the right side of tlie heart. The jury found accordingly.
