THE AMEER IN INDIA
A TACTFUL MAHOMETAN. MINDFUL OF IfINDU RELIGIOUS SCRUPLES. Received 13th. 5.10 p.m. Calcutta, January 12. Upon learning that Mohanimeds intend to sacrifice one hundred cows to celebrate his participation in a festi val, the Ameer urgently requested that none of these animals shou'd he slaughtered, but that goats should lit substituted.
This request was made in order to avoid all "-offence to Hindu religious feeling. The Hindus, who at the outset of the Ameer's visit, were among the first to strew his path with flowers, warmly appreciate the con sidcration thus shown for their feel ings, which is likely to produce a remarkable effect upon co-religionists throughout India. t
