TARANAKI EDUCATION BOARD.

Tile monthly meeting of the above Board was hold on Tuesday evening, l'resent —Messrs ], Wade (chairman); : G. A. Adiam, G. Tisch, D. Morrison, W Monkhouse, Kennedy, A. Morton, If Trimble and A. Faull.

Mr Sanderson (architect) reported that repairs wer e needed to four or live fireplaces at Inglewood school, at a cost of about £B. Plans had been prepared for additions to the school, etc., at Oaonui, an estimated cost of ,£290. If the building were raised an extra expenditure of 'would be necessary. Plans would need to be prepared far additions to the West End School at a cost of about ,£193. To widen the central room, provide two rooms for teachers and enlarge lavatories, the estimated cost would be ,£254. Other schools needed painting, the total estimated cast of which would be £222. The cost of enlarging the dining room at the Frank'.ey Road school would be ,£3l. This would include cost of painting the building. In reply to questions the chairman stated the various works would eceive the consideration of tlic finance committee. In some instances (ho estimates might appear heavy, but this would be decided when tenders were received.—The report was .idopted. The chairman submitted a report giving particulars of appointments as follows: —Durham Road, Miss M. M. Papps, sole teacher; Pungarehu Mrs Harrison; sole teacher. Temporary appointments, Toko, Miss Bern'tsen, assistant; lnglewood, Miss Riorden, infants' mistress; Stratford. Mr Cameron, Mr Tyrei, Miss Urquhart ; Central. Mr Rainbow, assistant; Whangamomona, Mr L. Bieheno; Wei;t End, Miss Berntsen; Norfolk Road, Miss Finnerty. The chairman stated he had procured from the Land Board a quarter aere section adjoining .the school at Lepperton at a rental of 5/ per annum for a school garden. The report was adopted. The Inspector was granted permission to use the infants' departmental the Central school for holding the national scholarships' extminaltions on nth December. The Inspector also submitted reports re proposals for additional schools At Taku there was an unused wiiare which he understood could bo rented at 5/ per week. He would recommend that application be made, and that the Board fence in iwo acres should it be needed. About fourteen children lived at the settlement and he recommended tiiat temporary arrangements be made until such time as a school 'would be erected. If a teacher were not available the school could be run as a hatf-iim<' >cnool in conjunction'with Wangaroa. Mr Spencer could not recommend the erection of a school at Newall

Road as there would be only live or oix children attending. He thought accommodation would be available in a building belonging- to Mr Ducker. Miss Cassie could instruct the children. This teacher had passed the ,6th ivtandaid and had nearly two years m secondary instruction At Aria there was a school site of five acres, and as the district was a rising one a school was required. In the meantime he would be in favor of procuring some building at a rental of about 5/ per week. At Kaeaeae there was a to-acre school site. He would recommend that a building of a temporary nature be erected and that the Aria and Kaeaeae schools be worked as half-time schools. Reports adopted.
