PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.
At the ordinary monthly meeting of the Parihaka Road Board on Wednesday there were present: Messrs J. Young (chairman, in the absence of Mr J. Rothery on leave of absence), J. C. O'Rorke, P. Willcox, M. Deegan, VV. Revell, and C. Sorr--1 nson.
The foreman reported that during the past month the fine weather had enabled repairing work to be tarried out at a fair rate of progress, and settlers had assisted by carting metal on the Cape. Parihaka, and Harvey roads. The Cape road required three or four days' work in cleaning and straightening watertables. A 2 ft culvert on the Opua road near Mr-Wilcox's house needed renewing. He recommended that the balance of the Opua road loan should be spent in Winding metal, to be done by day work. About 50 yards of stone from Cook's pit was lequired to repair the Upper Kina toad. The £s subscribed by the Arawhata road settlers as half co.-t of metalling would be insjfiicient, and the foreman recommended that the Board do the work as far as the money wou'd go. The re-grading of Saunders road was proving a tough job, owing to the necessity of keeping the road open for trafiic whilst the work proceeded. He recommended a fortnight's extension of the contract time. Side-channels on the Ihaia load needed attention. B. Harrison iiad completed the Kina road metal contracts, delivering 703 yards, and 13. Harford had a'most completed filling and metalling approaches to the Op"Urapa biidge. A fence should be erected at the approaches to piotect the filling from cattle traffic. The contractor for metaling 011 this road had not got all ston- 1 broken. The stone was m ant on the approaches to the bridge, and le had written to the contractor that "no doubt there wou'd have been enough -lone if the breakers had broken all that had been put on the road in the first place instead of throwing them into the river. You want to put a stop to these chaps doing those tricks." The foreman will attend to water tab'es on the Cape road. Expenditure on the Warea and Newail roads will be kept as low as possible, and Messrs Ducker Bros, representing settlers) will be informed that before any further work is doneon these roads thesettlers should take steps to levy a special rate on account of the roads being so much overdrawn,
Tenders nil! he railed for blinding metal on the Opua road. Arawhata r. ad settlers wi'l be inform'd that the cost of work rerjuir ••d is x"'s, and tliey will be requested to forward £2 10 in addition to the £5 already sent, in order to complete
;l\e\r half -hare of the cost. Extension of time was granted to
the contractor on the Cpper Kahui road, and the fencing on the Opourapa road rcitmmended by the foreman will be done.
On the motion of Messrs Wilcox and \oung, it was decided to strike 'he fu 1 special rates on all loans, and the clerk was instructed to collect sutlicient to pay interest.
The Chairman moved., and Mr Sorr»n>on seconded, that th< first year's interest be deductd from tlv* Opnurapa and Opua load loan accounts. The mnti'in was carried.
