CRICKET.

NORTH TARANAKI ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the executive of the North Taranaki Cricket Association was liclil on Thursday at New Plymouth, to consider the matter of giving financial assistance towards the expense ot bringing out the English team. There were present Messrs Crombie I lnglewood),Perltam (Carrington road), A. S. llasell Plymouth) and E. Whittle (secretary*. A leitc." was read r >ai Mr Raphael, 1 secretary to the New Zealand Council, stating that the total eost of the tour, inclusive of passage money, would be £2500, and the liability would, it was suggested, be divided between the Councils and Associations in proportion to the amounts subscribed by each. Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury, and OUgo would be limited to £SUO, and the remainder to £IOO. Should the £2500 be over subscribed, the liability of the contributing bodies would be correspondingly redio;d, pro rata. It was proposed to pool the proceeds from the whole tour, so that in the event of a loss on one particular match the burden would not fall on the Association responsible for the arrangements. The letter continued that it had not yet been decided where matches would be played, is at present it was not known if the tour would extend to Australia. Under ordinarily favorable conditions there was not the slightest doubt but that the tour would yield a handsome profit, and the Council hoped the Association would see its way to join the scheme and thus benefit cncket throughout the colony, rather than allow the profits to be secured by a syndidate. From the experience of Lord Hawke's tour, the secretary was sure that the chance of any loss was absolutely nil. It was explained that each Association or Council, as the case might be, would run its own match or matches, the expenses of each match and the receipts therefrom to be charged to one account; and on the completion of the tour, the balance, whether profit or loss, would be apportioned pro rata to each Association and the Council in proportion to the amount subscribed by each.

The executire, whilst approving the scheme, regretted its inability to undertake any financial liability.

The annual meeting of the Association will be held in N e\v Plymouth on Thursday, September 27.
