I'EU PBESS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, July 30, A well-known figure about Wellington streets, Charles Evans, better known as "Piccolo Charlie," died in tho Hospital, aged 75. Evans, who had led an adventurous life, was the son of au Alderman of London and was educated at King's Collcgo, and at a French uniyersity. Ho joined an early rush to the Australian gold-fields and took part in the defence of Eureka Stockado, Subsequently lie worked, as a miner on nearly all the Now Zealand goldficlds, being a familiar figure in all parts of tho colony during the early days, He brought to the West Coast the first brass band that ever visited tho gold coast of the colony. For some years past he had been in" receipt of local charity.
