PETROLEUM NEWS.

Tke Provisional Directors of the Taranaki Petroleum Company went to allotment on Wednesday evening. Taranaki more than subscribed its allotment, viz., 12,124 shares, whilst tke returns from otker districts have been most satisfactory. Active work on the field will now be the order, tke Directors being confident tkat witk the money at their disposal they will bo able to prove tke extent and richness of the field. The drilling of the second bore will be proceeded with, with celerity, and a start made with the clearing out of ono of the old bores tkat is known to contain payable oil. A further bore will also be put down, but tke position as yet has not been decided upon. Although the Directors have gono to allotment, it should be mentioned that tke share list is not closed.
