CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE CONGRESS.
PREFERENCE TRADE DISCUSSED. Received 11, 9.58 p.m. London, July 11. At the Chambers of Commerce Congress, Mr Drummond, delegate from Montreal, moved the Canadian Boards of Trade and ,Manufacturers Association's (combined) resolution urging the Governments] of the United Kingdom, the.eolonies and dependencies to grant each other preferential treatment on a reciprocal basis, hoping the Colonial [Conference would give effect to the principle. Lord Averbury said it would be time to talk of preference when Britain and Canada started on equality of duties. Mr Beale (Sydney) and Mr Beau, champ (New Zealand delegate) warmly supported the resolution. Mr Beale promised Mr Chamberlain a magnificent reception if he visited Australia. The delegates from Australia, Canada and South Africa invited tho next Congress to meet in their respective countries.
