BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Taranaki Education Board was held on Tuesday evening. There were present: Mr Jus. Wade (chairman), Mrs Doughorty, Messrs G. Adlam, G. H. Maunder, McDonald, W, Monkhouse, H. Trimble, H. Faull, and A. Morton.
CHAIBSIAN 8 EEPOEI. The chairman reported that he had appointed Miss Urquharl to temporary charge of tfuikama from June 11th to July Ist, and Mrs Williams solo charge of the Bchool from tho latter date. He reported that as it had been found impossible to connect tho Stratford residenco drainage with the borough sewers, Messrs Irvine arid Henry had been authorised (on tho recommendation of the architect) to connect with the Technical school septio tank.
AECIIITECTS EEPOBT, The architect (Mr Jas. Sanderson) recommended painting at the Waitarn school residence, at an estimated cost of £lO. He reported that the out offices at Inglewood would shortly be commenced. Difficulty in obtaining seasoned timber had delayed tho additions to the Salisbury road residence. The work of adding to the Oaonui residence would be put in hand at once. The final payment of £95 5s Cd on the contract for additions to the Stratford residence was rccommonded. Mr Sanderson reported that tho Eginonl Village residence was in a bad state, and it would not be wise to spend much on repairs, but a new residence should be built as soon as possible, In the meantime repairs were urgently needed, such as making the roof watertight Material for the New Plymouth Technical School is being delivered on the ground, and concrete foundations are well advanced. Plans for the new school at Matiere had been prepared, and plans would be laid before next meeting. The painting and other work at Bell Block was being proceeded with.—lt was decided to paint the Waitara school as recommended, except for the extorior, where paint will be applied only to the parts absolutely in need of it.
FINANCE COMMITTEE'B BEPOHT, On tlie recommendation of the Finance Committee, it was decided to mate an application to the Department for assistance in re-building tho Egmont Tillage residence, but in the moantime the roof be made watertight. The matter of repairing desks, etc., at the New Plymouth Central School was referred to the Chairman, with power to act; as there will be a surplus from the Government grant after the building is completed, a range will be sup. plied to tho Oaonui residence. A grant of £3 will be made to the Pukearuho committee for the purchase of material* for repairing the building used as a school, the committeo findiug the labor roquired. The sum of £3 will be granted for a door to the porch at the Warea school, and for two gates. Tlie headmaster at Inglewood will be informed that the Board cannot connccl the residence with tho borough water supply scheme, but the lavatories w 11 be renewed and connect on made with the drainage system. The Boird cannot pay for a galvanised iron fence between the Mahoe school and residence but will supply material for n post and wive fence. The matter of repairing fencing and flooring tlie shed at Waihi was referred to Mr Faull to inspect and report. The Salisbury Road committee's rcquesl for rc-papcrirg part of tho residencecannot be complied with, but a new outhouse will bo erected. Tho Board at this stage adjourned till this morning at 9.30.
