Mr District Judge Kettle arrived in New Plymouth by Tuesday night's oxpress train, and proceeds to Auckland by to-night's steamer.

Mrs J. C. Richards' friends will learn with ploasure that she left the New Plymouth Hospital on Tuesday, after the successful performance of a very serious operation by Drs. Walker and Homo.

A Press wire states that Mr C. C. Goldsmith, Crown Lands Commissioner for Hawkes Bay, has been appoinled to succeed Mr T. Humphries a 9 Commissioner in Canterbury, the latter succeeding Mr Marchant as SurveyorGeneral. Mr H. Trent, Commissioner for Marlborough, succeeds Mr Goldsmith. Mr Trent's place iu Marlborough will be filled by the promotion of Mr P. S. Smith, Inspccting-Surveyor at Gisborne. Mr T. N. Brodrick, District Surveyor for Canterbury, goes to Gisborne.
