SHOCKING REVELATIONS.
SCANDALS OF THE MEAT TRADE. New ioiiK, May 20. Revelations in Mr Upton Sinclair's novel, "The Jungle," induced President Roosevelt to scad commissioners to investigate Chicago method*, and their report, which will form the basis of legislation, is to be immediately submitted.
Newspaper detaiis show that hog* dying of cholera were converted into lard for sardine oil, putrified hams were chemically rendered odourless, bad meat dyed, and potted ham made from mouldy beef. Cattle dying ol disease were converted into tinned beef, sausages made from door scrapings, and when operatives were mutililted the machinery was not stopped, rhe human llesh being mixed with food and sausage.
