AUSTRALIA'S HOlfE RULE t MOTION,
London, May 29.
The R'ght Hon. J. Bryce (Chief Secretary for Ireland) has announced that he will make a grant for three years to teach the Irish language in the National Schools.
The Chief Secretary for Ireland (the Bight Hon. J. Bryce) Laborers of Ireland Bill, providing for four and a quarter million loan on land purchase terms, enabling county councils to erect 25.111 cottages, was read a first time. Towards the annual interest 622,300 will be derived from Irish sources, besides £35,000 from rent, and £28,000 annually from an Exchequer grant, leaving £23,000 to be borne by t'le rates.
In the House of Com nons, Mr Sandman, replying to a question whether, inasmuch as the Commonwealth House of Representatives' Home Rule motion was printed as a Parliamentary paper, the resolution of a Sydney m ;cling on the 21th, and others held in repudiation, should be officially issued, st ited tint Lord Elgin (Colonial Secretary) was unable to present Parliament with any resolution not forwarde? by the Governor-General. Iq connection with the petitions against Home Rule, Mp Dcalfin states that some controversy took place ovot sending tliem through tlie Governor. General to the Imperial authorities. The petitions were sent to the Gover-nor-General without reference to his Ministers, anil Lord Northoole declined to send then Home. Mr Deakin threw out a hint at the time that the petitions might be scut through hi ni and that he would hand them to the Goyernor-Gcncral, but the hint was not taken
