BOSTOCK AND WOMBWELL'S CIRCUS AND MENAGERIE.

An exchange, speaking of Bostock and Wombwell's Circus and Menagerie, which is announced to appear in New Plymouth to-morrow and Friday night, says:— "Why, it's belter than the Zoo!" was the rem irk uf a delighted spectator, overh :ard as an entrance was effected through the crowd besieging tho ticket window at Bostock and Wo'nbvell's Circm. An inspection of the (a;es ranged round tlic large menagerie tent fii'ly confirmed the verdict so aptly expressed. A better and more varied show of animals has never be.'n presented to New Zealand. To detail all the varieties of animals to be seen is beyond possible space. In any caie, the men igerio alone is well worth seeinand constitutes a liberal education 111 zoology Tlie attractions of the menagerie are added to by a daring performance by Herr Hohenab.il, who, entering a ciigo in which i< let looße a lion and a tiger, makes I them do his bidding, dospite evident reluctance and the fearful accompaniment of savage roars. If there were a

thrill of excitement as the performance proceeded, there was a distinct sigh of relief as the cage door shut safely behind the daring trainer. The show is unique in more ways than in the splendid menagerie. It is a eireus without horses. Ordinarily this would spell grievous disappointment, but the originality of the performance makes up for this absence. Some idea of the enter-

tainment is perhaps given by a com: parison—something more original than Rickards has given, and certainly it is tho best variety programme offered by any circus. To see the Lukushima troupe is to rocord a revelation in the art of acrobatism and artistic thrilling balancing. There are many noyel and interesting turns, including Gungi and Dolwi, the men of many instruments, Happy Jacklos, the clown, and his performing dogs, Captain Frank Taylor and his athletic baboons, Signor Bertani on his unsupported ladder, Jarvis aid Campbell, scientific and burlesque jugglers, and Mons. Monier, the human ostrich. The prices of admission have been fixed at 4s, 3s, and 2s. •
