A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

A serious accident happened at Douglas road, at noon to-day (writes our Stratford correspondent under Wednesday's date). A co-operative laborer named Dwyer was engaged driving a horse in a tip truck, when the animal shied at the points. Dwyer was knocked down and the truck went over his left leg just above the ankle, nearly severing the leg. Dr Carbery immediately attended the injured man and a special train brought the sufferer into Stratford. Ho was removed to the New Plymouth Hospital by the 5.30 p.m. train. On inquiry at the Hospital at an early hour I lu's morning we learned that the injuries were of so shocking a nature that it has been found necessary to amputate the leg below the knee. Dwyer bore the operation exceedingly well, and his condition at the time of writing was as well as could be expected, although suffering severely from shock.
