A CONTEST IN NEW PLYMOUTH
By some unexplained means iui impression was put abroad yesterday that the nominations for tlio New Plymouth Mayoralty closed ou Wednesday, and that as Mr J. B. Hoy was the only candidate nominated that day, he had been declared elected. The time for receiving nominations was Thursday, at noon, and yesterday morning Mr E. Dockrill was nominated. These are the only two contestants, Mr W. A. Collis having definitely' docided not to stand, but to complete his term o£ office as a Councillor and to leave the matter of the Mayoralty alouo for a while. The Eeturniug Officer announces that an election will be held ou Wednesday next, between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. The principal booth will be nt the Town Hall, and others will be nt Mr S. T. Crocker's residence, corner el .Devon and Eliot streets, and Mr G. A, Corney's residence, corner of Devon and Mount Edgetumbe streets.
