NEW PLYMOUTH VICTOB[OUS. - * The bowling tournament at Ha we ra, during the Easter holidays, was in i every way a success. The weather was beautifully fine, and the Hawera '•; Club's green in capital order. Players { report that all the arrangements were I— carefully thought out,, -and not the : slightest bitch occurred. The clubs I competing were Hawera, New Ply•j mouth, Fitzroy, Eltham, Manaia, v Opunake Pibama (combined). By Monday morning the only teams left in ; were New Plymouth, Filzny and } Hawera, the latter so far having es- > '. eapid a single defeat. The first game ; wis between New Plymouth and - Hawera, the homo team suffering de- - feat. This brought the three teams on ; a level, with one loss each. Fitzroy ,1 drew a bye, and New Plymouth defeated Hawera somewhat easily. The final game resulted in Fitzroy being . beitiu by 29 plints t) 25, after an ; exciting game, and the New Plymouth j bowlers brought home the shield. '-'}'"" Hall's rink beat Burnside's—l3 all. i juid Bundle's beat Hill's by 29 to 25. The former rink went through the whole tournament without a loss. They ww H, Smart, H Goldwater, A. '• Mr Dingle, President of the Hawera J Club, congratulated the winners on 4 their success, and Mrs Dingle pre- ) ' dented the challenge shield, to be held . for one year by the Jfew Plymouth ,f Bowling Club. The shield is of black ebony, with a raised silver centre, depicting a player in the act of leading, "and bearing "eight smaller shields for ¥ the inscription of names of the winfur mng clubs.
