EUCHRE PARTY.

The popularity of euchre parties in New Plymouth is no longer a matter for comment, so it is little wonder that the Theatre Royal was well filled on Thursday night, when one of these functions was held under the direction of the energetic Recreation Sports' Ground Committee. There were between 250 and 300 players of bridge and euchre, the competitions resulting: —Eucliro, ladies' prize, Miss Lena Bayly, Ist; Mrs Webster and Miss A. Bryden (equal) 2nd; gentlemen, Mr W. J. Howell. Ist. Bridge: Mr Cooper and Miss Boowu won the gentlemen's and ladies' prizes respectively; Mrs Fiizherbert second. Miss Bryden beat Mrs Webster for second in euchre, and then won in tho euchre match against Mrs Fitzherbert for the special prize presented by Mr Deare. Refreshments were provided and were handed round by the ladies. His Worship the Mayor presented the prizes won at the swimming sports and welcomed home Messrs H. Mynott and Abbott, Plymouth's representatives in the New Zealand touring football team. The gathering was a huge success socially, and should lie the means of adding seven or eight pounds in cash to the ground funds.
