FARMERS AND GRADING.

ENTHUSIASTIC HINTHUNTERS. There was an uncxpcctadly large at- j tendance of farmers at the Moturoa Freezing Works on Thursday, to discuss grading and general dairying matters with the Chief Grader and stall', and with the Dairy Commissioner and his staff. A pleasing feature was that the gathering incln led many ladies—farmers' wives and {laughters, who were iu many cases the butter makers at private dairies. The grading demonstration was much the same as ou the previous day, Mr Johnstone, the Chief Grader, explaining the defects iu the butler, and the cause of them. Those present were very keen in seeking information, and expressed the opinion that the conference should lie an annual, or even half-yearly one, as they were thus given an opportunity of compiriug butters, and learning what the graders wanted them to know. Afternoon tea was partaken of, at the invitation of the Freezing Works directors. About 3 o'clock there began au exodus, the cows calling the studeuts back -to the farms to put into practice the hints so eagerly sought for. At the request of several of the f Miners, Mr Walter Ambury, as President of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce, aud vicc-Prcsidoiit of tho Taranaki Agricultural Society, moved a hearty vote of thanks to the graders and officers of the Department for their kindness and attention, and readiness to impart information. Mr Hale, of Dorset-road, seconded the motion, and paid a direct compliment to the officers iu charge, admitting that they had convinced him that the grading system was in the true interests of the farmers.
