A LICENSING PUZZLE.
GREY LYNN WILL NOT ELECT A COMMITTEE. riilt TRESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, February lit. A meeting of the Grey Lynn Borough Council was held this morning to consider the question as to whether or not Liccnsiug Committee should be elected, seeing that No-License was carried at the recent Local Option poll. The Licensing Act of 1H95 staled that under such circumstances it was not necessary to elect a committee. The Liccnsiug Act of 1005, however, repealed the Act of 18' Jo; therefore' things remained as before, and the Returning Officer is of opinion that the committee requires to he elected. This view is also taken by the Returning Officer for Aucklaud. As, however, the committee would be nscless in a No-License district, the Grey Lynn Council consulted the borough solicitor. His opiuion was that the Grey Lynn Council, being a local authority, may exercise its discretion on the matter. Actiug upon that advice, the Council decided not to hold any election.
