AN EXTRAORDINARY CASE.
MANIA FOR HORSF-THIEA'ING. PER I'KESS ASSOCIATION. Gisbor.ni; February-ID, " The most extraordinary ease I have ever had to do with," was the opinion given by the Magistrate to-day, regarding the offences of a Maori youth named Rawiri Graut, who has a mania for stealing horses. He was recently eonvictcd at Tolago, and is awaiting sentence on several charges of theft and horse stealing, including the removal j of racehorses.
To-day he pleaded guilty to two more charges of horse-stealing, and also house breaking, being committed to the Supreme Court at Auckland for sentence.
His Worship remarked that the cou. duct of accused was most extraordinary, He evidently had a mania for stealing, particularly horses. His conduct was so strange and foolhardy that he had some doubt whether the prisoner was ■ in his right mind However, the : authorities at Auckland would have him examined if they thought it necessary.
