ARBITRATION COURT'S AWARD

In the main, tlio award repeals tlie provisions ot tho last award made* between tlio parties. The Union asked for an increase of 10s per nnutli in wages, and an increase of lid per liunr 'n overtime pay, and preference to unionists. The majority of the Court did not Ihink any substantially different circumstances were shown to have arisen since the last award, justifying an increase of wages. As to preference, the majority of the Court thought Die matter stood on tho same
footing as on former occasions, when it was asked for and refused, Mr It.. Slater, representative of the Unions in the Court, dissented from Indecision of the majority 011 these and other questions. The Court lias been uuable so far to complete awards which are lo be filed in Wellington and Auckland disiricts. The award dealing with local eon. ditions will be died at the earliest possible date next mouth. The members of the Court leave tomorrow en route for Grey mouth, where the coal miners' ami wharf labourers' disputsc will bo heard. ""
