FIGURES FOR LAST YEAR. Details of the imports and exports of the colony during Ihe quarter ended 31st December last apjicir in the last •' Gazette." The imports totalled C 3,175,051, as ngmnst £3.251.'.Ki1l for the hist quarter of 1904. Of Ibis total llie United Kingdom sent goods valued al C 1.979.112. Australia and Tasmania £5 Ml. 177, United States £ 105,10(1, Fiji t2:i1,7!M1. and Europe £157,3.31. For the whole year the imports totalled £12.826.691. a decrease of £-165,943 on the 1901 figures. The exports during the December quarter totalled £2,996,315, onr best customers being: United Kingdom £2,015,71)0. Australia nn d Tasmania £6(54,81)4, and United state, £173,380. The total is a decrease of £lß,Oll on the last quarter of 1901. The total exports for 1905 amount to £15,655,947, an increase of £907,5()<j on the exports of 1901,
The following (ig uros ffve the value of onr chief exports in the last three months of 1905, the corresponding 1901 figures being in brackets:—Wool £820,753 (£981,602); gold £501.788 (£442,998); butter £500.770 (£510,412) kauri gum £182,673 (£129.320); flax £137,254 (£164,979); frozen meal (all kinds), £202J)81 (£252.192). The Gazette also contains statistical details of the shipping of the various ports for the last quarter of 1905 and for the whole year. During the quarter the vessel* entered inwards numbered 159, of a total bnnage ot 383.596 tons the figures for the five chief ports being: Auckland, 67 vessels, 143,692 tons; Wellington, 29 vessel*, 65,765 tons; Lvttclton 10 vessels, 8986 tons ; Dunedin. 11 vessels, 19,997 ton a; Bluff, 16 vessels, 31,108 tons. For the whole year the total was: Vessels, 627, tonnage 1,139,11(1 —a very slight decrease on the 1901 figures.
