Waxgaxii, .January lk A fourtecn-roomcd house in licllsfreel, owned by Mr Francis Walts, of Mangatoki, and occupied as a boarding-house by Mrs Chapman, was destroyed by fire- this morning. The furniture was insured for £250 in ihe South British Office, but the insurances on the house and boarders' effects arc not ascertainable. Palmersto.n North, January 13. A fire broke out in the Provincial Hotel at five o'clock this morning, completely gutting the upstairs portion. The downstairs was also partially gutted and damaged by water. The cause is unknown. The licensee, 1 H. McArtney, was absent in Foxtou. M. Ci'caven owned the hotel, which was insured for .£"700 in the New | • Zealand Office. It was a very old structure, and the Licensing Comm'ttee at the last meeting ordered if to be re-built. Waxgaxui, January 13. A fire occurred at midnight in a sixroomed house at St. John's Hill, occupied by J. G. Browne, and owned by J. E. Rendell. Mr Browne, whose , wife and family were absent in Weii lington, had only moved into the house f during the week, and the fe-niture was ' unpacked.
