AUCKLAND v. AVELLINGTON. PEE TRESS ASSOCIATION. "Wellington, January 13. Auckland scored 1117 against AVellington to-day. Haddon hit very powerfully for 05, and Jones, an old inter-national, who made 167 on the same ground just twenty years ago, contributed 45; Brooke-Smith made 35 and Olift' 20. The latter, with Haddon, gave a capital exhibition of smart running and quick scoring. Monaghen, who was unsuccessful at first, later on bowled very

well and secured 5 wickets for 42 runs, Upham 3 for 49, and Redgrave 2 for 33, Wellington gave a better display than usual. When they went in agam, Hickson and Tucker put on 77 for the first wicket, the latter contributing 32 and then Hickson went on scoring steadily, lie made himself 100 and is still in. He showed great defence, but he hit well to leg and the off, and gave no chances. The other scorers were J. Blacklock 22, Hutehins 13. Tlio score is 198 for 4 wickets. There was a fair attendance, and the weather was fine. The wicket, however, was rather fiery to-day, and several players got knocked about.
