PREFERENCE WITH BRITAIN AND COLONIES. Received 1, 9.35 p.m. Londox, January 1. It is semi-officially stated at Ottawa that the arrangement for the tariff retains preference for Britain with similar concessions for New Zealand, South Africa, and Australia, if the Commonwealth reciprocates. Mr Alfred Mossley, speaking at the Canadian Club, said Sir W. Laurier had informed him that Canada was prepared to increase her preference for British manufactures, provided Britain gave preference for agricultural products.
