VOLUNTEERS.
A joint moetlng of the Shooting Committees of the Bines and Guards was held at the Drill Hall on Tuesday evening, Captain Mills being in the chair.
It was decided to form a Taranaki Rifle Association and to hold a meeting at the latter end of February. As the result of discussion as to ways and means it was decided to enrol honorary members at 5s each. It was also arranged that tlio Government District Match should be fired at the Association meeting. The programme will not be an ambitious one, as it is desired to pay prizemoney in full irrespective of the number of entries.
Every rifle club and volunteer company in tho district will bo invited to 30m the Association, and be represented on the committee
A further meeting will be held on January 8, when it is proposed to formulate the programme. Meanwhile Captain Mills will act as honorary secretary.
J _ In view of tho Trentham programme it is proposed to hold one or moro long range matches.
The committee of tho Rifle Union will meet at Inglewood 04 Thursday,
