THE AXEMEN'S CARNIVAL.

That successful organisation, the New Zealand Axemen's Association, holds its popular annual carnival at Eltham on the 2n'lli and 27th inst., and present indications point to another most successful gathering. The great amount of corrupt professionalism 'that. exist* in many other branches of athletic sports has caused a long suffering public to seek for something new. This want is supplied by the Axemen's Sports. The men competing at the gatherings held tinder the auspices of the New Zealand Axemen's Association arc the same class of sturdy pioneers as those who foiled the bush of Tarnhaki in the early days, and thus gave the start to the prosperous time tho. province now enjoys. These men work hard all the year round and then como oiit for a fortnight's holiday in the festivo season to vie with each other in their feats of skill and endurance. This class of sport docs not know the wastrels of city life. The man who is a clover axemen must of necessity be a hard Worker, as this is the class of, work aud sport which taxes the wastrel totlievery limit of his energy. We draw attention to the special advertisement in connection with the carnival in another part of this issue.
