Owing to the cost of living and the dearness of meat and other necessaries, the employees of the Berlin Electrical Engineering Companies have asked'for an advance of 16 per cent. The employers offered 5 per cent as the extreme limit advance, as the working day had been previously reduced from ten to niue hours. As a result of a refusal to work, two companies have locked out 8000 employees, and other trades threaten to strike if the lockout extends.
