CHRISTCHURCH, 'Aug. 1 Owing, it is stated to the want of consideration shown by the Govern nwnt to the executive ojnjd ibuildme committee of the New Zoaland International Exhibition on the subject of the appointment of architects, matters locally are in a critical position, and discontent anil irritation are likely to assume definite shape shortly. When the Government tiecided not to call for competitive designs, it waa understood thlit the committees whicH will |bqar aiiost of the responsibility in regard to buildings and will havie to work out all the details in regard to the exhibits, would feve a voice in the selection of architects from amongst tihe applicants. This was not done, the applications having been sent to the Executive Commissioner, und the appointment maxie jfromj Wellington over the heads of the Christohurch executivo and building committee. j
To-day bqtwcqn twenty and thirty men were set to work under tho horticultural and landscape committee in Haglcy Park, levelling and laying olt the grounds preparatory to planting.
