A BUTCHER'S DISHONESTY.
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Juue 13. A butcher's rider-out, namod James W. K. llunter, was charged in the Police Court this morning, before Mr Kettle, S.M., with having, while acting us a servant of Messrs It.- aud W. Uellaby, Ltd., butchers, stolen £O2 7s 2d, the property of his employers. 11c was also charged with obtaining moat valued at £26 ls&d from his umployeis by false protenc.s. Mr S. May, who prosecuted, stated that part of accused's duty had been to tako weekly or monthly bills to customers, and receive tho money. Ha had failed to account for various sums, amounting altogether to £62 7s' 2d. To enaible him to hide the thefts, llunter hail rQ-wrltlpn tho accounts sent out by, the lirm, striking out tho "account rendered" item in the bills which he gave to customers. Since accused's arrest he had done everything possible to clear up tho matter. John Payne, branch auditor for Messrs Uellaby, stated, witfi regard to the charge of obtaining meat by fulse pretences, that when customers ceased to deul with the firm. Hunter continued to brlngin orders, though the meat did not reuch the jwrson who was supposed to have ordered it. "I admit everything in the statement is correct," was accused's reply to the formal charge at the concluSon of the evidence, und ho was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence..
