IMMORTALISING A BRAVE MAN.

IXVERCAHGILL, May 3L Two patent invalid beds, two trav oiling and two back rests, procured from a firm in Canada that specialises hospital goods, weru to-day handed over to the hospital by the Southland Highland Society. They bear plates inscribed : "To tho memory of General Sir Hector A. Mac Donald, K.C.11., D.5.0." The speeches made were tributes to his distinguished military career and to his work as a man. In accepting, tho gift, Chairman Hawkes expressed tho hope that the example of the Society would he followed by others, and hu suggested that the time was opportune to raise subscriptions! to erect a ward for consumptives. The suggestion was heartily supported by Mr J. A, Hunan, M.11.K. for lnveivargill, and met with marked favour from a large gathering.
