Valuation of Land.
AN IMPORTANT TOINT. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 31. The Assessment Court for the Kawhia County opened at Otorohanga on May 30, Mr 11. W. Northcrol't i S.M., presiding. The first cose provled to foe a very important one. The objector, a Maori, was represented hy Mr John Ormsby, who stated that the owner objected to the valuation for the reason that the land in question, in common with all' other Maori lands in this district, had no selling value. Mr McGowan, representing the Valuation Departjment, strongly Combattod Mr Ormsby's Contention, and submitted that the question of restrictions imposed by the Act was quite outside the matter in dispute. The Court gave it as their opinion that the land in question being under restrictions that made it unalienable had no selling value as laid down by the Valuation of Lands Act, ]iNJoj,bul suggested that the Supreme Court should be appealed to to decide this point for guidance of the Court.
