Golden Wedding.
0 The golden wedding of Mr awl Mrs John Hooper was celebrated at Mr" I!. Hooper's residence, Pihauin, on Wednesday. Mr and Mrs Hooper were married in the parish church of St. Ive, Cornwall, on May 10, :18.-)5, by the Hov. R. ilohhou.se. Mp. Hooper- arrived in Melbourne in 1857, in the ship James Mains, resitting for some yours on the Ballnrut diggina. From there ho returned to England in 1860, to bring out Mrs Hooper to this colony, landing, in Dunedin in 1861. Following tho occupation of mining, he went to the Thames seven years later. He wan pitman and boss of the Caledonian mine for three years in tho best of the times, the managers l being Messrs Rowe and Richnrdsi. He was afterwards manager of the Sea Lion, Prince Imperial, and Albumin mines. Whilst at Thames he was sent by Sir T. Hussell to the Hay of Islands coal-inino to erect the first pumping, gear After leaving Thames Mr Hooper came to Turunaki in 1874, following farming pursuits, retiring in 1902. Mr Hooper's children now living arc:—Messrs J. Hooper, H. Hooper, W. T, Hooper (Kh'aima), and Mrs J. R. Chutterton (New Plymouth), ami Mrs J. R. Hoopor (Puilmcrjiton North) Tho grandchildren, numbering 21, were all present at Hie wedding breakfast,, at which 50 sat down. Amongst the visitors were Rev. Worboysj, Mrs find Miss Wor-bqys (Ppunake), Mr and MJs» Kenyon (Pihama), Miss C. Cowling (Now Plymouth), Miss BlanClieU (New Plymouth), and Mjss M. Cox (New Plymouth).
