PERSONAL NOTES.

Dr. S. H. Gibbs, of Nelson, brother of Dr. Gibjbs, of Wellington, was married to Miss Hamilton Smith at Sydney last month. Mr Robert Mayne died at Surrey Hills, New South WaWs,, (he other day, aged ninety-seven years. Deceased was ona of the first policemen in Sydney. He was the oldest Orangeman in Australia. On Wednesday Mr Turton. of Omata, met with a painful accident. Ho was using an axe on his property when, by some mischance, it slipped and inflicted an ug.ly wound in tho left foot. Dr. Fookes attended the sufferer, who is progressing saitisfactorily.

Mrs C. E. Major, of Haiwera, returned fu>m Sydney % the Moeraki, arriving at Wellington on Thursday. Mr E. N. G, Poulton, who has of> late been actinjg-secretary to the Hon. James Carroll, has been appointed private secretary to the Hon. Colonel Pitt.

The Premier leaves Wellington early next week for Christchurch and Dunedin. He will profoajbly give a politicafl address hi each city, in reply to the recent speeches of the leaider of the Opposition. Mr Seddon will bo absent from Wellington about ft wecE.
