Borough Works.

Mr U. L. Mestayer, of consulting engineer to the Borough Council, arrived on Tuesday owning, and, accompanied by the borough engineer (Sir H. Harvey Gibbon)' made a detuiled inspection of the various loan works on Wednesday.. Mr Mestayer informed our representative that he ha'd been thoroughly over the waterworks, and found thai the completed work was highly satisfactory from every point of view, well-finished and substantial. He looked upon the reservoir (constructed by Messrs I'ikett and Spencer) as a really first-class piece of work. "1 do not see anything in the whole scheme." ho remarked, "that could have been amended or improved on. I am sitislied we have gone to the I'jfilu place for Hie intake, ajid adopted the best plan of getting tin water through. There is not tlie slightest jloubt that the. scheme is most efficient, and will be q'uite satisfactory to the town in every way when finished. Tile work has not yet been passed, as there are several matters being attended to by the borough engineer, but in another two or three weeks everything will be ready for the regular supply of the town."

Mr Mestayer also inspected the power house site, and in the afternoon looked over the septic tank, with which good progress is being made.
