New Plymouth Borough Council.
WORKS COMMITTEE MEETING. The adjourned meeting ol the Borough Council Works Committee was held on Friday evoning. There wcro present the Mayor (Mr Cock), and Crs. Cliff, burgess, Browne, Ti6ch t Wilson:, Coilis and Hurgeis. —Ariki Street.— Kotilicution wus revcived from tin Harbour Board Uiat when / Arik. Street was linished, the Board would pay their contribution towards the construction. The Board contending that both Bides should be channelled thi> Knginecr was instructed to proceed with the channelling on the opposite side. —Street Extensions.— Intimation was nchived from the Harbour Board that ns u portion ot CuiTie Street had already been dedicated to the Council, the Board could not pay the £l2O as originally agreed upon in order to put the street in repair, but would i<uy a proportionate part of same accordmi to the length now hold by the Board. The llourd asked for an estimate of the same. When the present leases expired in February of 19X18 the Board would undertake to dedicate to the Council the narrow strip as shown on the plan in order to make the street iho full required width.
The Harbour Board wrote thai the triangular piece of land required by the Council from Kawuu Pa reserve, and estimated at 10.8 frolics, for the purpose of extending Gill Street through to Brougham Street, would be Bold by the Board, for the sum 6t £l5O, conditionally on the street being formed the full required width, metalled, kerbod and channelled within 2 J years, and the Council obtaining the consent of tho Board's tenant to giving up the land. Both letters were referred toi the Gill Street Extension Committee for report. —Huatoki Bridge.—
The Carrlngton Rood Board wrote accepting the Council's offer for the supply of irohbark timber, as its share towards the construction of a small bridge over the Huat-ok!, and intimating that 1308 feet would be required.: —Stable#.— Mr If. ,1 ones notified that he intended to build four loose boxen at the back of his new stables in King Street, and asked that the site be inspected. It was decided that the commit' tee moEe an inspection on Monday morning.
—Unauthorised Dumping.— Mr If. Blatchford drew atto*'ion to the fact that the Council bad deposited a considerable quanity of ■sarth in Gilbert Street, which was damaging his fence, and requested that it bo removed at once. A request was also mode by Mrs Blatohtord, who owned a section in the same street, that the material deposited on the land be removed. Instructions were given to comply with the requests made. —Kerosene Store.—
Application was made by Messrs L. D. Nathan and Co. for a strip of Borough land between the teptic tank and river as & site for a kerosene store. Consideration was deferred until the completion of the septic tank, —Street Blocking.—
41 r J as. Morris, contractor, asked for permission to use 50 feet of the I roadway in Currie Street for the purpose of stacking material during the erection of Messrs Burgess, l'rdeer and Co.'s new building. The application was refused as it •.vas considered the material would cause too much blockage.
—East End Fire Station.— Captain Ilellriuges, of the Fire Brigade, asked that a division fence |be erected between the east end Are station site and the adjoiniug soclion so that the custodian might I keep the place private.
Tho work was authorised. —Drainage Connections.— Permission to make drainage connections with tho sewer was given the following :—Messrs C. 11. Weston, J. H. Parker, E. T, Petty and Drs. Leatham and Home. —Alleged Damage.— Mr W. S t Pardy wrote bringing ufeder notice damage dono to his section abutting on tho I'owdcrhnm Street Gully by tho llorougli employees, who cut away the corner of his section and destroyed tho boundary peg when repairing and altering the footpath. The matter was referred to the Borough Engineer, with power to act. —Sub-Coinroiltce.— Crs. Ewing, Wilson, and Cliff wero appointed a sub-committee to report on tho dispute between Mr Webber and the Council regarding liability for certain drainage work. —Water Extension.— The Engineer waa authorised to lay oj chains of thretHnch mains in Cameron Street between Peadarves and Gilbert Street, as the present one-inch pipe would be insufficient to supply another residence —Pressure Gauge.— The Engineer was granted authority to obtain a pressure gauge for the water main. —lnsurance?. The Town Clerk was instriKjted to lay on the table a return showing aU the .insurances of the Council.
