Lepperton Notes.
(From Our Correspondent.) Friday last, was a red letter day amongst the rising generation of cattle in this district. Mr Rowan, stock inspector, conducted a grand inoculation ceremony, during which upwards of five hundred promising weaners wore initiated into -full membership of the Disease-proof League ; and, with the Government sign of immunity fair and full on theil vealy flanks, were turned adrift into the world and prtnounced capable of withstanding the demon lllackleg and all his works. I wonder .if calves appreciate all the advantages they now possess of making their way in this scientific world. Vrobably not.
There is a fearful thirst on this district. No rain to S|ienk of for live or six weeks, and farmers are beginning to squeak. If this goes on much longer special intercession will have to be made ; but there, what's the gopd with a barometer standing ut 30.2.
A liK-oling of (ho local branch of the Farmers'' I'nion was to ' have boon held hero a short time back for the purpose of hearing an nddsess by Mr McCurdy. All were invited, and at 8 p.m. Mr McCurdv had the ploasure of facing seven all told. A promising sign, I call it. Things arc not so bud when the 'benefits of union are considered- less desirable than the penalties nod P&IW v? 4Jf»UfttS>».
