Hospital Board.

MONTHLY MEETING. The Hospital and Charitable Aid Hoard mot on Monday morning, whn there were present: Messrs G. Tiseh (Chairman), R. Cock, .1. Hur;4>sp, J. Amdrcws, J. Drown, E. Al. Murl'ey, and Dr. Harding. —Children's Homes.— With reference to children under the Bonrd'a control the Chjirman reported that he, in company with Mr Lepper, had paid a visit to the several'homes where the Board had children boarded out. Miss Overden, on the Vcale Road, bad eight of these children, their agesi ranging, from 18 months to 10 years.i Those of school age were attending school. The children were well cared for, being clean and healthy. They also attended Sunday school and received religious instruction at home. Sirs Eva, on the. Vealc Road, had two of the Hoard's children, who were receiving the comforts of a good home, and were attending school. —(Management.— The Chairman In his report stated that everything in connection with the Old People's Home and the hospital was progressing satisfactorily. The .monthly report of Mr A. E. Farrar showed thut since Feb. i>o, two males (S. Price and V. Grimes) had been admitted. There were now •13 inmates ;■ 38 males and 5 females. There were two departures during the month, G. Mills and Airs Thomas. The discipline at the homo was good, and the general health of the inmates excellent. The acting matron (Nurse Lawson) reported that during tho month 34 patients had been admitted to the hoapS'tnl, a/nd l 23 disclmr|gcd. There had been two deaths at the institution. The present number of was 40. Im 18 cases'anaesthetics had been administered, and there had been 15 operations 1 performed! —Probationers.— Applications from Winnifred J. Short and Alice Smith to be enrolled on the list o|i probationers were approved. —Subsidy.— Advice was received that a sum of £•100 3s lOd, Government subsidy, had been pajd over. —(Drainage.— Three tenders were sent in for drainage at the Old People's Home, the hospital, isolation ward and annexe, and connecting the same with the borough drainage scheme. The tenders also included plumibing work to provide at'id lit up six wash-down urinals, and three new cast ironi enamelled (baths, connecting; sinks and lavatories, etc., in accordance with the borough bye-laws. The tenders received were :—-Russell and Son £315, F. C. Gritlitlis £319, It. W. Hond £357 10s. The lowest wus accepted. The Borough Council notified that the borough engineer had been instructed to Olet down a sewer in; M)ount Edgecumbe Street at the eanliest opportunity.

—lnformation for Local Boards.— The Oaßura branch of the Fanners' Union applied for n. list of jm-i--sons receiving charitable aid. The secretary was instructed to) supply such data to a'il Hoad Hoards amd Farmers' Unions in the district each half-year. —Subscription.— A hospital donation of £2 Us from Mr Dong Gee was acknowledged 1 . —Medical Man Wanted.— j In reply to an application from Mr Kattenbury to the Chairman, asking that a medical man for tho Tongaporutu-Mokau district be sul>sid,lsed, the secretary was instructed to reply that the Board did not see its way clear to grant a subsidy, nor did iti consider the time was ripe for such an appointment.
