ATHLETIC MEETING AT DUNEDIN.
DUFFEY BREAKS A RECORD. DUNERIN, March 12. A day's sport was provided by thfc Otago centre of the N.Z. Amateur Athletic Association, when Duffey (America), Widmcr, and Whcatley (Australia) made their first appearance. The day was beautifully fine and the attendance was about four thousand. A feature (+' the gathering was Duffcy's record in the 50 yards dash, which is a record for grass and equals the world's record on cinders { and L. Burk's win in the half mile flat in lmin 58Jsec, with Patrick (25yds) second. The 50 yard yards dash nsuited : Duffey (s-.v.) 1. A. Hoare (2Jyds) 2. Time, 5 2-ssec. In the mile flat. Mace (140 yds) won in lmin 27scc. Burk and Whcatley started, but both gave up.
